Anal fissure

A fresh anal fissure looks like a new tear, resembling a paper cut. The edges of the tear may be red, swollen, and painful. It is usually caused by a sudden increase in pressure in the anal canal, such as straining during a bowel movement. It can be very painful and even bleed in some cases.

A more recent, acute anal fissure looks like a fresh tear, much like a paper cut. It is often caused by a traumatic event, such as childbirth or the passage of an unusually large stool. It is typically very painful and can cause significant discomfort and bleeding. Treatment of acute anal fissures involves topical medications to reduce inflammation and promote healing, as well as pain relief medications for symptom management.

Diagnosis

The position of the fissure provides hints as to its origin. It is more likely that a fissure that develops on the side of the anal orifice than than the rear or front is a sign of another condition, like Crohn's disease. In order to determine whether you have an underlying condition, your provider can advise more tests. Testing might involve:

  • Anoscopy. To assist your provider in viewing the rectum and anus, an anoscope, a tubular instrument, is inserted into the anus.
  • Sigmoidoscopy with pliability. Your healthcare professional places a little, flexible tube with a video inside the base of your colon.
  • If you are under 45 and have no known risk factors for colon cancer or gastrointestinal conditions, this test may be performed on you

Surgical Methods

  • Botox injection- By momentarily numbing the muscles below the anal sphincter, Botox injections can help lessen or even eliminate fissures, while they are not a cure. This stops feces from passing unintentionally through the anus.
  • Lord’s Dilation- A speculum is inserted into a patient's rectum at various angles during the lord's dilatation (or lord's), which entails enlarging the anus that is already open. This operation is performed to provide the patient extra room and to ease constipation or hemorrhoid pain.
  • PLIS ( Partial Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy )- PLIS (Partial Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy) is a safe and effective surgical procedure for the treatment of anal fissures, typically performed under local anesthesia and sedation. It involves making a small incision in the muscle of the anal sphincter, which helps to relax the sphincter and reduce the pressure on the fissure. This can help to reduce pain and discomfort, as well as aid in healing. Additionally, PLIS is associated with a low risk of complications and a short recovery time.
  • Laser treatment - This is done using the Leonardo laser, which was first employed at the Healing Hands Clinic in India. A laser is used to perform internal sphincterotomy. This procedure results in almost no blood loss, and the surgeon has exceptional control over the operative site. The chronic fibrotic scar is also removed with the laser. This prevents any long-term discomfort and hastens the healing process.

Lifestyle and Precautions

  • Improving your diet with fiber. Consuming between 25 and 35 grams of fiber per day can keep stools soft and speed up the healing of fissures.
  • Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains are examples of foods high in fiber. Another option is to take a fiber supplement. In order to avoid gas and bloating, gradually increase your consumption of fiber.
  • Consuming enough liquids. Constipation can be avoided with fluids.
  • Not straining during bowel motions. Pressure from straining might produce a new tear or cause an existing tear to reopen.
  • Reclining in a hot bath. Soaking in warm water for 10 to 20 minutes many times a day will calm you and soothe your skin. This is also known as a sitz bath. Take a sitz bath after bowel motions, if you can.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Chronic fissures are ones that have been present for longer than six weeks as opposed to acute fissures, which have been present for less time. Both conventional medications and Ayurvedic treatments can be used to treat fissures at home, whether they are acute or persistent. However, if the condition gets worse, surgery is required

Laser surgery can heal fissures without causing pain or bleeding. The patient receives a local anesthetic before the surgery. Painkillers are typically used to relieve post-operative pain.

An anal fissure is a tear or incision that is near the anal orifice. It often improves in 3–4 weeks with simple home remedies and medications. The patient can resume normal activities the next day following laser surgery to treat a fissure, and full healing takes one to two weeks.

For fissure, the best procedure is laser sphincterotomy. The anal fissure was treated with laser therapy using the Leonardo Laser

Constipation-causing foods should be avoided. You should consume extra water and include a fiber-rich food in your diet to prevent constipation. Since constipation is the main cause of fissures.
