HHC houses the very first pelvic floor physiotherapy clinic in pune.

We at healing hands clinic come across people with pelvic pain, mostly having pelvic floor dysfunction where in their muscles have become too tight leading to hypertonic muscle condition. The pelvic floor muscles are a group of muscles that attach to the front, back and sides of the pelvic bone and sacrum, they support the bladder , uterus , prostate and rectum , also form a wrap around the urethra, rectum and vagina ( in case of women ).

These muscles function by contracting and relaxing and thus allowing a continous motion of urination, bowel movements and are active in womenduring sexual intercourse.

Due to faulty lifestyle or rigorous straining, muscles develop a hypertonic condition where in it leads to pelvic pain or urgency in case of frequency of bladder and bowels. In situations where they develop a hypotonic condition it leads to organ prolapsed.

At times one finds a combination of hypertonic and hypotonic muscles.

Hypertonic muscles cause the following symptoms:

  1. Increase in the frequency of urination, discontinuous flow of the urine stream, painful urination and incomplete emptying ofbladder.
  2. Constipation, strainingduring defecation, pain during defecation and abnormal bowel movements.
  3. pain in the low back, pelvic region, hips, genital area, or rectum
  4. Due to overexertion there is Pain during intercourse.

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction where one is unable to control the working of muscles in the pelvic region can be diagnosed by a physician who will begin the examination by asking questions related to urinary tract infection, irritable bowel syndrome, birth of a child and so on.

A defecating protogram may also be performed , here the movement of a thick liquid is tracked via X ray , and the timing and movement of the muscle to push the liquid out of the rectum is recorded.

Physiotherapy helps in muscle toningwhich basically helps strengthen the muscles and help them regain the elasticity.

When your pelvic floor muscles are tight and weak, the tension is treated before the weakness. Once the muscles have reached a normal resting tone, and are able to relax fully, their strength is reassessed and strengthening exercises areprescribed, if appropriate.

We at healing hands clinic along with the strengthening exercises also evaluate the tone of your anal muscles by performing Anal Mano9metery and then based on the reports, we assist you in Biofeedback sessions in which you can analyse the tone of your muscles and correct the previous reading.
