A rip or cut in the skin of the anal canal is known as an anal fissure or Fissure-in-ano. Men and women are equally affected by the illness, which can develop at any age ( infants too ). Anal fissures are often located in the back of your anus, parallel to the buttock cleft.
Acute fissures are those that have been present for under six weeks. A chronic fissure is one that is older than six weeks. The Sentinel Pile, which resembles a skin tag and may be present in the Chronic fissure, is typically difficult to feel.
Medicines - Usually, medications are used to treat acute fissures (those that are younger than 6 weeks). Even Chronic fissures undergo a preliminary patient care trial. Breaking the cycle of anal sphincter spasms and anal skin tearing is the goal of the therapy
After a bowel movement, relaxing in warm water that encompasses your hips and buttocks will help ease any soreness
It works to lessen the anal sphincter's spasm when applied topically. However, it has negative side effects like headaches and dizziness that limit its usefulness.
The anal sphincter is also relaxed with this method.
Surgical Method | Method |

Botox injection | While not a cure, Botox injection can help reduce or eliminate fissures by temporarily paralyzing the muscles below the anal sphincter. This prevents unwanted movement of stool through the anus. |
Lord’s Dilation | The lord's dilatation (or lord's) is a traditional medical procedure that involves inserting a speculum into a patient's rectum at various angles and widening its already open anus. The purpose of this procedure is to provide the patient with more room and to relieve pain from constipation or hemorrhoids |
PLIS ( Partial Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy ) | Partial Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy (PLIS) is a surgical procedure. It is a minimally invasive surgery that can be performed through the patient's mouth and nostril without making any cuts on their skin. This allows the doctor to access different parts of the body with ease. |
Laser treatment | The Leonardo laser, which was originally used in India at the Healing Hands Clinic, is used for this. To accomplish internal sphincterotomy, a laser is employed. Nearly no blood is lost during this treatment, and the surgeon has excellent control over the surgical site. Additionally, the laser is used to remove the persistent fibrotic scar. This avoids any long-term discomfort and makes recuperation more rapid. |
BOTOX For Fissure | Botulinum Toxin A is a neurotoxin also known by the brand name Botox. It produces temporary, localized, flaccid paralysis of muscle and can be used commercially in medicine, cosmetics, and research. |
Botox is an injectable medicine that is used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and to soften the look of lines on the face. Botulinum toxin, commonly known as botox, is a naturally-occurring protein that regulates muscle activity by blocking signals from traveling back and forth between nerve cells. This can lead to soft youthful faces and muscular weakness in areas where it is injected.
Because the anal region is so delicate, you will be briefly sedated to lessen the discomfort. Sedation is not always necessary because local anesthetics can sometimes be used to numb.
In order to ease any discomfort following the injection, painkillers may be given. The next 72 hours saw a gradual onset of Botox's effects, which peak at 4 weeks and last for 3-6 months ( individual variation ). A diet high in fiber and the use of stool softeners as directed is crucial for maintaining soft stools.
Bleeding, temporary inability to regulate bowel movements or flatulence (incontinence), an allergic reaction to Botox, muscle weakness, and postural hypotension are possible adverse effects (found in a small percentage of patients).
The reason Botox is so popular is that it provides a non-surgical option for treating chronic anal fissures. Most people have at least some pain alleviation from it. In roughly 60–70% of situations, it works. It can be readily repeated after six months, which is an additional benefit. There is a potential that it won't work for a tiny percentage of people, in which case it would be necessary to investigate alternative treatment choices.
Acute fissures are those that have been present for less than six weeks, while chronic fissures have been present for more than six weeks. Ayurvedic remedies and prescription drugs can be used to treat both acute and chronic fissures at home. But surgery is needed if the illness worsens.
Fissure treatment using laser surgery is painless and bloodless. During the procedure, the patient receives a local anesthetic. In most cases, painkillers are used to treat post-operative pain.
A tear or incision close to the anal hole is known as an anal fissure. Through straightforward home treatments and pharmaceuticals, it normally recovers in 3–4 weeks. If laser surgery is performed to treat a fissure, the patient can resume regular activities the day after surgery, and full recovery takes one to two weeks.
Laser Sphincterotomy is the finest procedure for fissure. The Leonardo Laser performed laser therapy to treat the anal fissure
You should stay away from foods that cause constipation. To avoid constipation, you should drink more water and incorporate a diet high in fiber. Since fissures are primarily caused by constipation.
