What is anal fistula ?

An anal fistula is a medical term that refers to an infected tunnel that forms between the skin and the muscular opening at the end of the digestive tract (anus).

The majority of anal fistulas are caused by an infection that begins in the anal gland. This infection causes an abscess, which either drains spontaneously or is surgically drained through the skin next to the anus. The fistula then grows beneath the skin and connects to the infected gland.

Causes Of Fistula

  • Anorectal abscess - Almost all anal fistulas are caused by an anorectal abscess. An anorectal abscess is caused by an infection of one of the anal glands. The infection quickly turns into a pool of pus - an abscess. An anal fistula develops when an abscess fails to heal completely with or without treatment.
  • IConditions that cause intestine inflammation, such as Crohn's disease and diverticulitis.
  • Cancer of the anorectal region.
  • Tuberculosis, HIV, and sexually transmitted diseases are examples of infections.
  • Iatrogenic - As a result of previous surgery in the area.

Treatment for fistula

FiLaC (Fistula-tract Laser Closure)

  • The procedure takes about 30-40 minutes.
  • The goal of the medical approach is to gently remove the fistula tract while avoiding injury to the sphincter muscles.

Distal Laser Proximal Ligation (DLPL)

  • An abscess pit and the interior opening are first excised.
  • The distal tract closure takes this into account.
  • After that, the proximal end of the fistula tract is closed using the Leonardo Laser.

Have plenty of rest, take a Sitz bath three times a day (especially after a bowel movement), practice good hygiene, and eat a fiber-rich diet.

There is no need for a special diet. Simply eat a healthy, fiber-rich diet and protein diet both before and after surgery.

You can start drinking water soon after the procedure and eating as soon as you are hungry. After surgery, you will be able to get out of bed. You will most likely experience some pain post-surgery but it can be easily managed with pain killers.
