For a long time, haemorrhoids, more commonly known as piles, was a disease that wasn’t given much importance. While doctors had more 'serious' conditions to take care of, those suffering from it felt awkward speaking up about it. It should be noted here that haemorrhoids remain one of the most common conditions affecting people. Statistics tell that almost 1 in 2 of us will be affected with it at some point in our lives. Considering the above scenario, Dr Ashwin Porwal, who is India’s leading Proctologist today, thought of setting up a clinic that would be dedicated to the treatment of piles and other anorectal conditions. Thus, in 2008, Healing Hands Clinic was established, a state-of-the-art Proctology Clinic to provide advanced treatment for anorectal conditions like haemorrhoids, fistula, fissure, constipation etc.
Dr Porwal graduated from the esteemed B.J. Medical College, Pune. Having done his post-graduation in general surgery, he went on to do a Diploma in Laparoscopy. Around the same time, he had an opportunity to train under Italy’s Dr Antonio Longo who is recognized world-wide for his contribution to this field. Dr Longo invented the Stapler surgery ( MIPH ) for piles and STARR surgery for chronic constipation. Under his guidance, Dr Porwal attained Diploma in Proctology.
Dr Porwal established Healing Hands Clinic with a vision to provide scientific and methodical treatment to patients suffering from anorectal conditions. He formulated a grade-wise treatment strategy to tackle haemorrhoids. Preference is always given to curb the disease at a primary stage by adopting a holistic treatment approach. This encompasses Ayurvedic medicines, physiotherapy, dietary and lifestyle changes. In advanced disease, when surgery becomes inevitable, only scientifically proven rewarding techniques are used. These include Laser Hemorrhoidoplasty and Stapler Hemorrhoidectomy. Dr Porwal has treated more than 8,000 piles patients. He has presented research papers at various international surgical conferences regarding his experience of treating haemorrhoids.
