“Gaining knowledge is the first step to wisdom; Sharing it, is the first step to humanity”
Dr Ashwin Porwal graduated from the prestigious B.J. Medical College, Pune, a journey full of sleepless nights spent learning the intricacies of the human body. However, every medical student is aware that a tougher time lies ahead of graduation, with the limited number of post-graduate seats and a Herculean entrance examination to clear. Five years of rigorous hard work helps one sail through these examinations too, and sooner or later each student knows which system of the human body will earn him bread and butter for the rest of his life. So a few more years are spent in learning every minute detail of that system, surgeons trying to brush up their skills with scissors and forceps. However, little does one know that the actual challenge begins when one enters the real world, where every surgeon is trying to one-up the other, where different fields of science are claiming a cure and medico-legal issues are always hanging like a sword above one’s neck!
Luck favors the brave ( and hardworking ), and in the tough initial phase of his career, Dr Porwal had an excellent opportunity to train under world renowned colorectal surgeon, Dr Antonio Longo. Taking up Proctology proved a game-changer for this budding surgeon, as super specialists in this field are still a rarity in India. In a brief period of about 8 years, Dr Porwal has established himself as the country’s leading Proctologist. With a number of firsts to his credit, he has opened new doors for future surgeons, advocating them to bring light to the part of the human body where the 'sun don’t shine'!
In Dr Porwal’s own words….
"In a world where the complexity of medical knowledge, techniques and device choices is increasing at a rapid pace, I hope to pass on the wisdom I gained from my clinical experience,to fellow surgeons and young students. The Diploma in Proctology we offer is certified by Dr Longo himself. We ensure that the trainees get ample hands-on experience and would finish the course on a confident note, and be able to practice independently. We have short courses as well, for established surgeons who want to keep up with the advancing techniques. Apart from post graduate students aspiring to become Proctologists, we have had various surgeons from across the country and overseas who wanted to increase the scope of their practice".

Hearty Approbation: Our Priced Reward
We all are students, after all life never stops teaching its lessons. Then again, a fortunate few get an opportunity to ‘teach’, or rather, to spread knowledge.Starting training courses at Healing Hands Clinic was one such effort to widen the scope of Proctology. With the alarmingly high incidence of these problems, the only way to tackle them was to increase the number of specialists. The response has been overwhelming! We have had students and surgeons from across India. However, to know that doctors have travelled all the way from Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen to learn with us, is truly humbling. Our colleagues and students have left us with blessings and kind words, and indeed, it fills us with pride knowing that we are adhering to our resolution of ‘service to society’.
